Hey I have got on the third island and was wondering if I should restore all the buildings before I start to build new ones for the quests. Any help would be really appreciated.

Don't bother with restoring until it tells you that you need to do it. One of the houses you can't even restore until a quest comes up because it belongs to the "boss".
The UFO was a pain for me. Took forever to find all of the items in there.
